it will consider that bill. white house correspondent dan lothian is traveling with the president and joins us live from pittsburgh. hi, there, dan. is the president preparing for the possibility that his jobs bill may not pass today's test in the senate? >> reporter: it it does appear that he is. in fact, he's meeting with his jobs council and a short minute ago he was asked about this and the president responded, saying, he doesn't know how congress will respond to the overall jobs bill but the expectation is that if in fact they don't pass it, as one entire piece, that it would be broken into parts. they would certainly push for the infrastructure component of that and then pressure would be applied later to get all of those other pieces done. but what the white house really wants is for this whole package to be taken up in one piece because they believe that's the only way to really get the economy going to create the kinds of jobs that the president would like to see. >> and when you look at this package, dan, we're talking $447 billion. one of sticking points is obviously taxing the rich. the

lawrence, live for us at the pentagon. we're talking 39,000 u.s. troops leaving iraq. as we heard the president say, being home for the holidays is certainly good news for folks here at home. but explain to me, though, we know that the u.s. and iraq didn't exactly see eye to eye with regard to an immunity issue because the u.s. wanted to have several thousand troops remain. >> that's right. there was a split, on both sides. there were some iraqi leaders who wanted a security of having a small u.s. force there. but ultimately it mainly came down to this issue of legal immunity. and what that means is, right now iraq and the u.s. have an agreement that american troops are not subject to iraqi law. they would fall under the uniform code of military justice right now. well, that agreement expires at the end of the year. and to set up a new agreement or to extend that agreement, iraq would have had to have agreed to grant that same immunity going forward. the iraqi politicians and parliament were not able to okay that or to agree to that and the u.s. government and by extension they co

this is a lack of any other leads. police it tell us they haven't made any breakthroughs on the case. they're trying to get fresh eyes on this investigation. take a look here, as you mentioned 25 national guardsmen deployed here to research this area a few blocks away from the home. these are especially trained mps, and they've been trained in it. joining fbi and local law enforcement here to just try to bring a fresh set of eyes, go through everything, make sure they haven't missed anything. here's what the national guard told us about their search. >> with the additional man power, they're able to research or search the area with like a fine tooth comb. they're able to get down in the grass, dig in the dirt, try to find any glues that helps. they're low crawling under bushes and vines. >> and here's exactly what they're talking about. take a look at this thicket. this goes on and on for probably about a half a mile around this field. this is where they've been investigating. this is an area they've cleared. you can see an old it television set, trash in here, they've gone inch by inch th

peter hamby joining us live again. peter, let's talk about how big paul's win was. >> reporter: well, ron paul wins straw polls all the time. he does it so often that a lot of republicans and a lot of the media doesn't pay attention. when they announced ron paul as the winner, a bunch of his supporters erupted in ron paul chants and everyone else in the room started booing them. looking further down the list, herman cain continues to do well among party activists. he finished second in the straw poll. and rick santorum, a fierce opponent of abortion rights, gave a strong speech here yesterday and he finished in third place. again, a lot of people are looking down the list, looking past ron paul a little bit. fair or not, he wins these straw polls all the time, diluting their importance at this point. >> let me ask you about baptist pastor robert jeffress who said that mitt romney is a mormon and that people shouldn't vote for him. what are people saying about that? >> reporter: that was the talk of the town. the controversy was still simmering this morning when mitt romney spoke here

. our political reporter, shannon is in des moines for us today. is that going to be the plan? if new hampshire moves up, iowa has to move up. we're talking about december, mid-december, could we go as early as november sthp. >> possibly not november, but definitely potentially december. i have to tell you, t.j., iowa's republican party is not happy at all with what florida is intending to do by holding this january 31st primary. as you mentioned, iowa is always traditionally the first contest in the presidential nominating season that holds the caucuses. iowa is banding together with new hampshire, with nevada and with south carolina. those are the four states that normally go first, according to the rnc rules. they're banding together and saying, look, we're going to move up our dates together, just to show how upset we are with what florida is trying to do. thou, we don't know those states yet, but aus mentioned, new hampshire could go in december. iowa could follow suit sometime tl thereafter. let me read a statement from the iowa republican party. the ar gans shown by the florida
